Technology companies have become too much of a reflection of society. Both are filled with humans. Both are complicated. Both should shut up for awhile. Good grief. No matter what anyone says, there is always a group of humans somewhere that hate it and say so.
The latest comes from Google, the company with a colorful, playful company logo which hides the sinister and evil lurking within. How so?
Google is the world’s worst information manipulator,
pulling culling private information from more humans on earth than any other technology company (Google is an advertising company) than perhaps Facebook (not really a technology company, but an advertising company, too). The company hides behind all those free applications and the playful logo.
Meanwhile, Google has placed the Android OS on about 2.5-billion smartphones and at least 127 tablets around the world. Guess which platform is a toxic hell stew of malware?
Apple’s iOS? Nope. Somewhere between 99.4-percent and 99.6-percent of all mobile device malware belongs to Android, and that hasn’t changed in years.
So why is Google dissing on Apple? Liam Tung:
Apple could do a better job of protecting iPhone users from remote attacks if it cut out non-essential code
That’s the message to Apple from Google. Or, put another way; from Google to Apple but with a public announcement in between. You know, to embarrass Apple because of all those privacy ads.
Tit for tat, right?
Google has a project which looks for bugs on Apple software. I’m thinking that might be a nice gesture because poor old Apple just doesn’t have the resources, you think? Uh… no. Google does it to spite Apple.
The team that found all those iOS bugs has now called on Apple to make iMessage less prone to remote attacks by reducing the ‘attack surface’ of its software, or in tech slang, cutting the ‘cruft’ from iMessage, so that attackers have fewer vulnerable parts to exploit.
There’s also the fact that Android text messages are second class citizens on iPhones– about a billion of those on planet earth– and Messages is the world’s de facto coolest messaging system and anything else on Android sucks.
Google’s Project Zero seems less a project aimed at helping humanity as much as it seems aimed at causing trouble for Apple– in retaliation for Apple pointing out that Google’s entire business model is corrupt.
Google should just shut up.
